Fast-rising Nigerian-Canadian artist, TOBi has released his second offering of the year, Sweet Poison, a self-indulgent track inspired by Sigmund Freud’s repetition compulsion theory.
TOBi’s harrowing vocals do well to capture the theory which stipulates a phenomenon in which a person repeats an event or its circumstances over and over again. This includes reenacting the event or putting oneself in situations where the event is likely to happen again.
Sometimes we’re drawn to a particular type of poison, consciously aware that it’s not good for us. In this song, I wanted to be open with my vices to show it’s a prominent part of the human experienceSpeaking on Sweet Poison TOBi adds
The Nate Smith & Nahum produced track follows the artist’s official debut single, City Blues which enjoyed praises from the likes of Snoop Dogg and Jamie Foxx. He released his debut EP, FYi in 2016. His 2017 release Hidden Fences was featured in the season finale of Insecure
Sweet Poison starts off a bit slow and opens with a piano piece quickly followed by a beat drop that sends the artist right into the hook. Through the duration of the song, he offers a full blend of harmonious falsetto infused with rap.
2019 is the year people may hear my name for the first time. I’m going consistently put out new work, starting with more visuals to accompany the music. I’m a multidimensional artist and I believe in breaking boxes, expectations and defying limitsTOBi continues..
